Year 9 Info Tech - Systems Technology

TERTIARY & CAREER PATHWAYS:

toolmaker, instrument fitter, mechatronic engineer, industrial designer, computer support technician, data processor, engineering pattern maker, quality control assessor, machine fitter, materials engineer, mechanic, assembly supervisor

In this unit, students will undertake a series of exercises that teach them how to understand and use the Systems design process to build designed solutions. Students spend a substantial amount of time engaged in developing production processes and skills. Through the practical application of technologies, students develop dexterity, fine motor skills and coordination through experiential activities. The quality of their solutions improves as their production skills improve. Students will design, develop and produce products using a variety of processes and combinations of materials.

Learning Standards:

Engineering principles and systems

  • Involves the use of strategies for understanding design needs and opportunities
  • Investigate and make judgements on how the characteristics and properties of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment can be combined to create designed solutions

Creating Designed Solutions

  • Identify design briefs and consider factors that impact on design decisions and the technologies used to create designed solutions
  • Investigate and select a range of materials, systems, components and software to develop design ideas
  • Visualising and generating creative and innovative ideas
  • Producing a production plan with logical sequences
  • Critically analyse their designed solution and make appropriate suggestions for improvements.

Assessment:

There will be a variety of tasks undertaken from the following:

  • Production activities
  • Work journal
  • Evaluation Reports
  • Research assignments
  • Safe Work Procedures

Contributions to class discussions and completion of class work will also be considered.
