In our world today, Graphic Designers produce logos, packaging, labelling, posters, magazines, books, website designs, and host of advertising across digital platforms. In this course students are introduced to the design elements and principles that are the basis of all visual communications. Students learn how to work their way through the creative process to solve problems and communicate messages often presented by real-life clients. To successfully solve the design problems students are taught mediums, including drawing, painting, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and 3D printing.

EXPLORE & REPRESENT IDEAS

  • Develop and present visual communications that demonstrate the application of methods, materials, media, design elements and design principles that meet the requirements of a specific brief and target audience.
  • Generate, develop and refine visual communication presentations in response to the brief 

VISUAL COMMUNICATION DESIGN PRACTICES

  • Use manual and digital drawing methods to create visual communications in the specific design fields of Environmental, Industrial and Communication Design.

PRESENT & PERFORM

  • Develop a brief that identifies a specific audience and needs, and present visual communications that meet the brief.

RESPOND & INTERPRET

  • Analyse and evaluate the factors that influence design decisions in a range of visual communications from different historical, social and cultural contexts, including presentations by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 
  • Analyse and evaluate the use of methods, media, materials, design elements and design principles in visual communications from different historical, social and cultural contexts, including presentations by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

 

Assessment:

There will be a variety of tasks undertaken from the following:

  • Freehand Drawing Folio
  • Technical Drawings
  • Graphic Design Folio and/or Product Design Folio
  • Visual Analysis & Evaluation
  • Topic Tests

Contributions to class discussions and completion of class work will also be considered
