This elective unit for Year 9 girls offers a comprehensive look at Women’s Health. Students identify and explore health issues and barriers facing women in society. Students participate in the #thisgirlcan campaign. The role women play in sporting environments and organisations are explored and the challenges/barriers they face is acknowledged. Students review participation rates of females compared to males at different ages of the lifespan and provide reasons for reduced/non participation. Students investigate a community action initiative to increase participation of females in physical activity. They look at the structure, process and functioning of the female reproductive system. Many other topics such as body image, personal fitness, elite athletes and sporting opportunities are covered.
For the practical component of this subject, there is a major focus on increasing levels of physical activity and remaining active whenever possible. It caters for the students who have a particular interest in sport, who want to improve their health and fitness profile and those who want the knowledge and skills to maximise their sporting performance. Students will participate in dance and fitness and a variety of games and sports. Emphasis will be upon participation, improving fitness levels and developing life-long physical activity habits.

Students who wish to remain active for some part of their timetable classes. Also for those students who may like to go on and study Global Health, Sport in Action, Exercise Science or Faster, Higher, Stronger in Year 10 should consider taking this subject.
