Adventure/Outdoor Educator, Community Sports Director, Facility/Venue Manager, Fitness Instructor, Health/Fitness Consultant, Health Promotions Director, Occupational Therapist, Personal Trainer, Physical Education Teacher, Physical Therapist, Recreation Center Manager, Rehabilitation Specialist, Sports Journalist, Sports Marketing Specialist, Sports Medicine Physician, Sports Psychologist, Sports Statistician, Tournament Director.

This unit of work will be a predominantly practical based elective subject. Students will undertake a student led game sense approach that builds skill development, allows leadership exploration and promotes personal skills to enhance team dynamics. Students will study international sports, games of the past and games of the future with a particular focus on the Commonwealth Games to understand the importance of quality behaviours in sport by exploring a range of sports to provide examples of leadership, teamwork, inclusion, fair play and ethical behaviour. Explain how quality behaviour makes participation in sport more enjoyable for all. Students will be required to demonstrate, review and reflect upon these quality behaviours.

LEARNING STANDARDS:

Moving the body

  • Adapt and respond to changes in equipment that increase the complexity of a movement task or performance
  • Transfer and perform specialised movement skills in situations where the rules or conditions have been modified to vary complexity
  • Respond to teacher and peer feedback to enhance performance
  • Developing and implementing appropriate movement concepts and strategies for selected movement scenarios

Learning Through Movement

  • Evaluate the contribution they make as an individual to teamwork, leadership and enjoyable participation for all
  • Use self-talk and encouragement to motivate themselves and team members to continue to participate and improve performance
  • Create and implement self-assessment and peer-assessment tools to evaluate performance in a variety of roles
  • Identify and critique leadership styles and group/team dynamics through collaboratively solving initiative games
  • Draw parallels between successful movement strategies in one sporting situation and how similar strategies could be used effectively in a different sport

Assessment:

Assessment across the semester may include a range of tasks such as:

  • Peer Teaching Tasks (SEPEP Tournament)
  • Practical application of skill and fitness
  • International Games Project
  • Disability Sports Assignment

Students are expected to participate in all practical components and activities
