This unit will focus on the elite performance capabilities of individuals. Students will explore pathways of learning that when applied can bring about an improved performance in physical activity. Topics studied will be sports nutrition, recovery methods and sports psychology.  In undertaking this unit, students will also investigate the impact of performance-enhancing drugs on individuals and sporting codes.  In addition students will learn also about fitness components, training methods and principles, testing batteries and procedures, and how to use sports analytics data to inform training and coaching in order to bring about improved performance.

Moving the Body

  • Respond to teacher and peer feedback to enhance performance
  • Use ICT to record others’ performance, and providing feedback on synchronicity and timing of movements in relation to other people, objects or external stimuli
  • Provide constructive feedback on their own and others’ performance by using movement-analysis software to break down a skill or sequence

Understanding Movement

  • Use ICT to design, implement and monitor a personal fitness plan which includes a timeframe, goals and a variety of specific activities that meet the needs of different people
  • Investigate target training heart-rate zones for a range of different people and how these zones relate to health, wellbeing and fitness
  • Justify the selection of physical activities included in a personalised plan linked to the components of health- and skill-related fitness they wish to improve or maintain
  • Use non-specialised equipment to develop health- or skill-related fitness circuits that can be used by family or community members
  • Use ICT to analyse movements and enhance movement sequences and performances

Learning through Movement

  • Use self-talk and encouragement to motivate themselves and team members to continue to participate and improve performance
  • Demonstrate motivation, persistence, confidence and commitment when faced with difficult or unfamiliar movement tasks
  • Discuss the role in promoting fairness and ethical behaviour in sport of organisations such as the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority, sporting tribunals, Australian Human Rights Commission and the Court of Arbitration for Sport
