In this course students develop and practise the techniques of animation and video production, and study media productions, on film and television. Students explore a range of camera and computer techniques and create short films in live action and animation in response to creative briefs. Students develop computer software skills in Adobe Premiere, Adobe Animate, and Stop Motion enabling them to produce a collection of video and animated works. They learn the art of video editing, 2-D digital animation, stop-motion, sound production and mixing, colour correction, acting directing, story and script writing, and storyboarding. Students will analyse films and the techniques employed by directors and animators. Students will develop an understanding of the persuasive techniques employed by Hollywood film.  Students will also develop an understanding of the history and development of animation and film.

  • Experiment with ideas and stories that manipulate media elements, and genre conventions to construct new and alternative viewpoints in images, sounds and text
  • Manipulate media representations to identify and examine social and cultural values and beliefs

MEDIA ARTS PRACTICES

  • Develop and refine media production skills to integrate and shape the technical and symbolic elements in images, sounds and text to represent a story, purpose, meaning and style
  • Plan, structure and design media artworks for a range of purposes that challenge the expectations of specific audiences by particular use of media elements, technologies and production processes

PRESENT & PERFORM

  • Plan, produce and distribute media artworks for a range of community, institutional contexts and different audiences, and consider social, ethical and regulatory issues

RESPOND & INTERPRET

  • Analyse and evaluate how technical and symbolic elements are manipulated in media artworks to challenge representations framed by social beliefs and values in different community and institutional contexts
  • Analyse and evaluate a range of media artworks from contemporary and past times, including media artworks of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, to explore differing viewpoints and enrich their media arts making  

 

Assessment:

Assessment across the year will include a range of tasks such as:

  • Getting to know your Camera
  • Animation Production
  • Horror Film Production
  • Analysis of Horror Film

Pre-requisite / Recommendation:

This course is recommended for students who wish to study Media at VCE level and is for students interested in a career in film, television, journalism, marketing and advertising, games and interactive media, communication and writing, graphic and communication design, photography and animation
