TERTIARY & CAREERS PATHWAYS:

Year 10 Foundation Mathematics builds on mathematical skills and knowledge students have undertaken in Year 9, with content covering the six strands: Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability. With each content strand students aim to demonstrate proficiency in Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning while focusing on the relationship between mathematics and the real world.

Core Units of Study:

  • Linear Functions
  • Linear Graphs
  • Measurement
  • Financial Mathematics
  • Univariate Data
  • Bivariate Data
  • Probability

Learning Standards:

  • Linear functions can be used to model financial, personal and community situations
  • Predictions for real world situations can be made from linear function equations and graphs.
  • Unknown values will be found by substitution into formulae.
  • Performing four mathematical operations with integers, fractions and decimals
  • Perimeter, area and volume of regular and composite shapes
  • Calculations relating to income, taxation and managing money
  • Comparison of data sets by referring to the shapes of the various data displays.
  • Determining basic statistical values, including mean, median and mode
  • Constructing and interpreting box-plots and using them to compare data sets
  • Describing bivariate data
  • Describing statistical relationships between two variables
  • Ability to list outcomes for multi-step chance experiments and assign probabilities for these experiments
