This unit will focus on the physiology of sports (how exercise alters the function and structure of the body).  This unit of work will study the body systems, fuel for energy, technology in sport, skill acquisition and undertake an introduction to biomechanics. This unit will also explore the various fields that sports health support services encompass and how these occupations aim to support athletes. This unit of study will prepare students for VCE Physical Education.

Learning Standards:

Moving the body

  • Evaluate own and others’ movement compositions, and provide and apply feedback in order to enhance performance situations 
  • Develop, implement and evaluate movement concepts and strategies for successful outcomes

Understanding Movement

  • Analyse the impact of effort, space, time, objects and people when composing and performing movement sequences

  • Devise, implement and refine strategies demonstrating leadership and collaboration skills when working in groups or teams 
  • Transfer understanding from previous movement experiences to create solutions to movement challenges
  • Reflect on how fair play and ethical behaviour can influence the outcomes of movement activities

Assessment:

Assessment across the semester may include a range of tasks such as:

  • Acute Response to Physical Activity Project
  • Body Systems Topic Test
  • Biomechanics Laboratories
  • Sport Technology Research
  • Examinations
