The Money Matters unit offers a practical exploration of business and financial planning, enabling students to understand the workings of the Australian economy and compare Australia's performance with global standards. Students will also analyse the different marketing strategies that can be used to gain a competitive advantage in business, including the use of logos, slogans and the four P’s of marketing. Additionally, the unit delves into Australia's legal system, focusing on the burden of proof in criminal and civil trials. Emphasis is placed on managing personal finances, encompassing budgeting, saving, and investing to build wealth. Students will analyze the benefits and risks of investing in interest-bearing accounts, Australian shares, and property. Examining the share market will allow students to select and track the share price movement of a parcel of Australian shares over a period of several weeks. They will also develop practical skills such as how to prepare a personal budget and how to research, record, graph and evaluate share price movements on the Australian Stock Exchange. On occasion, students may also evaluate topical issues of the day such as online scams, superannuation, consumer debt, buy now pay later plans or taxation issues.
