This course will equip you with practical coaching and leadership skills with industry knowledge that can be applied to working with groups in a variety of sport, recreation or fitness settings. At the completion of the course, individuals should be competent in a range of activities and functions allowing work or volunteering within a range of sport, recreation or fitness organisations.

Learning Activities:

This qualification reflects the multi-skilled role of individuals in operational and customer support positions in the sport or community recreation industry. They work in locations such as fitness centres, sporting grounds or complexes, leisure and aquatic centres and community recreation centres. This course has a focus on outdoor recreation activities such as camping, hiking and skiing and involves a practical component. Students are expected to undertake weekend and/or overnight camps in order to demonstrate competencies and meet assessment criteria. 


Assessment:

To complete the certificate, students must be deemed competent in 15 VET units over the two-year study. Students are assessed in relation to industry-based competency criteria. For each criteria, students must demonstrate both skills and knowledge. This is achieved through a variety of practical, workplace simulation, coursework, projects and online assessment.


What credit will I receive toward my VCE?

The satisfactory completion of this course will contribute two credits for VCE at Units 1 and 2 in the first year and two credits for VCE Units at 3 and 4 for the second year. 

This is a scored VET program, students will receive an ATAR contribution for the VCE VET Units 3 and 4 sequence of the study. Students will undertake a scored assessment for the purpose of achieving a study score. This study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student's best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study. Scored assessment is based only on the VCE VET Units 3 and 4 sequence of SIS30122 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation. This consists of three coursework tasks, worth 66 per cent of the overall study score, and an end-of-year examination which is worth 34 per cent of the overall study score.

Prerequisites/Requirements:

  • This course must be completed in a two-year sequence
  • Units 1 & 2 must be taken in Year 10 to enrol in Units 3 & 4 in Year 11
  • This course may be selected by any Year 10 seeking to undertake a VCE pathway (not available for VCAL students)
  • This program is conducted in the weekly timetable
