The Certificate II in Dance is a nationally accredited curriculum that provides students with knowledge and skills in the live and entertainment industry. The course has been designed to cater for a range of learning styles and is a program of practical experiences where students engage physically in dance classes, rehearsals, auditions, performances, dance scenarios and case studies. In addition to this, students have the opportunity to engage in independent research and presentations. When selecting this subject, students need to consider that this a performance based subject, therefore students are required to participate in various dance classes in a range of dance styles. 


Recommendation/Prerequisites: 

  • Students are recommended to have a minimum of 2 years dance training leading into undertaking this course. 
  • Students are strongly advised to undertake Units 1 and 2 prior to completing Units 3 and 4. 
  • Please be advised that dance styles are subject to change based on student dance training in the respective styles.


UNITS 1 & 2

  • CUADAN211 - Develop basic dance techniques
  • CUAPRF211 - Prepare for live performances
  • CUAWHS111 - Follow safe dance practices
  • CUAWHS211 - Develop a basic level of physical fitness for dance performance

Electives:

  • BSBTWK201 - Work effectively with others
  • CUADAN213 - Perform basic jazz dance techniques
  • CUADAN215 - Perform basic contemporary dance techniques

UNITS 3 & 4

  • CUADAN212 - Incorporate artistic expression into basic dance performances
  • CUAIND211 - Develop and apply creative arts industry knowledge
  • CUAPRF314 - Develop audition techniques
  • CUAPRF317 - Develop performance techniques

Electives:

  • CUADAN315 - Increase depth of jazz dance techniques
  • CUADAN318 - Increase depth of contemporary dance techniques

Assessment:

Assessment for Units 1-4 will be a combination of practical components including workshops and performances, research tasks, portfolio of evidence, creating performance pieces, and performance examinations. 

Unit 3 and 4 contributions to end of year mark:

  • 50% via 2 performance exams of 2 different styles of dance and
  • 50% as school assessed coursework in a range of formats mentioned in assessments.


What credit will I receive toward my VCE or VCE VM?

To be eligible for a study score students must successfully achieve all units of competence designated as the Units 3 and 4 sequence and a solo performance examination in the end of year examination period. The study score will contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student’s best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study. Students studying VCE VM VET Dance are required to successfully complete units of competency totaling at least 90 nominal hours. Each successful completion of 90 nominal hours will contribute one VCE VM credit towards satisfactory completion of the VCE VM.


PATHWAY

On successful completion of Units 1-4, students will be awarded with the Certificate II in Dance. Students may wish to continue with a higher education institute or private dance academy to complete a Diploma or Bachelor in Creative Arts.
