Certificate II in Agriculture is a nationally accredited curriculum which offers students an overview of the Agriculture industry and the career paths within it. The VCE VET Agriculture program provides students with the knowledge and skills to enhance their employment prospects in the Agriculture industry. The training program incorporates the following key competencies: collecting, analysing and organising information, communicating ideas and information, planning and organising, working with others, using mathematical ideas and techniques, solving problems, and using technology.


Recommendation/Prerequisites: 

Students must complete Units 1 & 2 before undertaking Units 3 & 4.


UNITS 1 & 2 

  • AHCINF202 - Install, maintain & repair farm fencing
  • AHCWRK207 - Collect & record production data
  • AHCLSK202 - Care for health & welfare of livestock
  • AHCPMG201 - Treat weeds
  • AHCSOL202 - Assist with soil or growing media sampling & testing
  • AHCBIO201 - Inspect & clean machinery for plant, animal & soil material
  • AHCWRK205 - Participate in workplace communications
  • AHCWHS201 - Participate in work health & safety processes


UNITS 3 & 4 

  • AHCLSK205 - Handle livestock using basic techniques
  • AHCINF201 - Carry out basic electrical fencing
  • AHCWRK204 - Work effectively in the industry
  • AHCMOM203 - Operate basic machinery & equipment
  • AHCWRK209 - Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices
  • AHCLSK211 - Provide feed for livestock
  • AHCLSK209 - Monitor waste supplies
  • AHCMOM202 - Operate tractors
  • AHCSHG201 - Crutch sheep

Assessment:

It is the responsibility of the teacher to ensure that all units of competence required for a particular VET qualification are achieved to the standard specified by the performance criteria, and is assessed according to the assessment guidelines specified in each unit of competence.


What credit will I receive toward my VCE or VCE VM?

Credit in both VCE or VCE VM - This course provides recognition of two or more units at Units 1 & 2 level, and in a Units 3 & 4 sequence. 


What credit will I receive toward my ATAR?

Students who study a Units 3 & 4 sequence will be eligible for an increment towards their ATAR (10% of the average four scaled studies). This course does not offer scored assessment.


Pathways:

Once the student has fully completed unit 1, 2, 3 and 4, they can choose to continue studies in a range of fields including certificates and Diplomas in Agriculture, Landscaping, Horticulture, Environmental Management, Equine. Pathways exist via further study to degrees in environmental studies, Agriculture Business and a range of other qualifications. VCAA only requires a Partial Completion for the purposes of VCE and VCE VM.
