Units 1 & 2 LOTE - Italian

The areas of VCE study for Italian language learners comprise themes and topics, grammar, text types, vocabulary and styles of writing. They are designed to be drawn upon in an integrated way and are common to all four units of study: Units 1 & 2 (Year 11) and Units 3 & 4 (Year 12).


UNIT 1

The themes and topics are the vehicle through which the student will demonstrate achievement of the outcomes, in the sense that they form the basis for the activities and tasks the student undertakes. There are three prescribed themes that are common to Italian throughout all four VCE units. These are: “the individual”; “the Italian speaking community”; and “the world around us”. The common areas of study have been selected to provide the opportunity for the student to build upon what is familiar, as well as develop knowledge and skills in new and more challenging areas.


Learning Activities:

Grammar, Past, present and future in a changing Italy, Issues and relationships, Formation of Italians through school and work


Key Skills Achieved:

Reading and viewing, Writing, Listening, Speaking in the target language.


Assessment:

  • Coursework 75%
  • End of Semester Examination 25%

Prerequisites:

The student must have satisfactory completion of Year 10 Italian.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that the student achieves at ‘Expected Level,’ and has an average score of 60% in the Semester 1 Year 10 LOTE examination.
